Anderson Valley Brewing Company
Boonville, California, Amber Ale, 1 Pint, 6 Fl. Oz.

Anderson Valley Boont Amber Ale

Crisp biscuit like malt on the nose. Darkend shade of amber/brown with a decent foam. Flavors are suprisingly complex. Bitter hop bite upfront with a slight boozy background and a maple malt finish. Overall, something about the flavor seems a little bit off to me. Nevertheless, it’s got some decent complexity and balance.

“We’ve been serving renditions of this beer for over a year, experimenting on our customers as we perfected the recipe,” said Brewmaster Larry Sidor. “This beer has subtle coffee undertones born from a blend of oats with dark, Munich and crystal malts. Classic IPA flavors and aromas are due to courageous additions of various hops.” Deschutes Brewery invites beer lovers to take the plunge – a hop, if you will – into this new Dark Cascadian Ale. Many may never even try to swim for shore.

Eel River
Certified Organic Triple Exultation

anchor_summer

Traditionally, Old Ales are an English style of dark, rich and sweet ale, typically with flavors of soft currant fruit and blackstrap molasses. While Old Ales typically have IBUs (bitterness) of 30-65, Eel River Brewing put their own spin on the style by adding extra hops to ramp up the IBUs to 80! The big, intense flavor of the Triple Exultation is well-matched with similar dishes such as roast beef, lamb or game, grilled or roasted. Cheese pairings for the Triple Exultation include double Gloucester or other rich, moderately aged cheese.

New Belgium Brewing
Fat Tire Amber Ale

Fat Tire Amber Ale marks a turning point in the young electrical engineer's home brewing. Belgian beers use a far broader palette of ingredients (fruits, spices, esoteric yeast strains) than German or English styles. Together with co-founder, Kim Jordan, they traveled around sampling their homebrews to the public. Fat Tire won fans with its sense of balance: toasty, biscuit-like malt flavors coasting in equilibrium with hoppy freshness.

Arrogant Bastard

A clean and full ale beginning with some sweetness is followed by a smooth, hoppy middle that is bitter but not floral. The beer ends with the clean ale of the beginning and the hops of the middle mellowing down. Floral lingering marks the aftertaste, which fades very nicely

Stone
Ruination, 10th Anniversary IPA

stone

Stone Ruination IPA, first released in June 2002, is a hophead's dream: super-bitter, deliciously unbalanced, over-the-top hoppy. So how does Stone Brewing Co. mark the anniversary of Ruination? The only way Stone could: by upping the ante, of course. For this 10th anniversary bottling, Stone doubled the amount of hops to 5 pounds per barrel. Definitely not for fans of lite beer.
